Nova Scotia Trout Fishing
|
|
|
Nova Scotia is known for its' phenominal trout fishing.
Speckled trout season in Nova Scotia opens on April 1st and closes after
September 30th. The regulations vary slightly from region to region. We
enjoy many lakes and rivers with resident speckled trout as well as sea
run fish in the spring and summer. Some of these fish can run up to 3
pounds. There are lots of smaller fish to be caught during the summer
which range in size from 4 to 12 inches.
Rainbow Trout - The Bras D'or lakes are an inland salt water sea in Cape
Breton, and are stocked with rainbow trout. These fish run into the rivers
in late summer. 6 to 8 pounders are not uncommon but the average size
is from 10 to 14 inches. Rainbow trout fishing is open year round in some
parts of Cape Breton.
Brown trout are pretty rare in Cape Breton but there are a few places
where you can catch them. They are beautiful with their leopard-like
spots and are very challenging because of their wariness. The sea run
variety can grow as big as 6 or 7 pounds but the average size is much
smaller. Brown trout season coincides with speckled trout season. Early
summer and fall are best.
Nova
Scotia offers thousands of miles of coastline, deeply indented with
many estuaries and bays. Famous
rivers such as the Margaree are paradise for the fly
fisher. Imagine fishing for trout in crystalline azure waters .... drift
fishing ...choosing the perfect lure or fly... and finally savoring
the taste of your pan fried fresh trout.
