Come
test yourself against a real fighter, the Arctic Char.
Arctic Char fishing in Newfoundland and Labrador is restricted to
certain areas and rivers, especially on the island. While the colder
temperatures of the rivers in Labrador attracts thousands of Arctic
Char annually. Newfoundland rivers are less frequented by this species.
The northern half of the island is reasonably good fishing with large
stocks of Arctic Char but as you progress northward it generally becomes
much better.
Outfitters
in Labrador are notorious for the large number of Arctic Char retrieved
at there fishing lodges annually. Probably one of the best Arctic
Char fishing areas on the globe is in Labrador, Canada. World record
Arctic Char has been reprieved in these waters and some rivers are
literally teeming with this interesting fish.
Try
casting a fly over a wild Arctic stream for char: it's
simply irresistible fishing. Take
a deep breath when an Arctic char takes the lure. You are in for a
battle of skill against pure instinct. There
are very few outfitters in Newfoundland and Labrador that specialize
in Arctic Char fishing. Most fishing outfitters offer Arctic Char
fishing as an add on to Atlantic Salmon or Trout.
Your guides will lead you to some great fishing spots and
show you how to catch 10 to 20 lbs. Arctic char on fly or casting
rods. Canadian
held World Record: 32 lbs. 9 ounces.

Goose

Three
main fishing lodges have been newly constructed during the
past five years. Lodges are located approximately 140, 200,
and 230 miles north of Goose Bay. All three main fishing
lodges are fully equipped with all modern amenities capable
of accommodating our anglers in a comfortable and professional
atmosphere. Our outpost fishing lodges are modern insulated
cabin type, capable of accommodating many anglers. Guests
are accommodated in 14 x 16 cabins (two anglers per cabin).
Each remote site consists of multiple wooden units with
individual thermostatically controlled propane furnaces
in all structures.
Fly outs for Arctic Char offer the opportunity to explore
totally untouched waters even deeper in the wilderness.
Heavy casting spoons are ideal for catching char because
you can cast them a long distance and they stay down in
the current.
Also Salmon, Lake trout, Brook Trout and northern Pike.

The Arctic char will hit a wide variety of foods and is one of the
easiest salmonids to catch on hook and line. Sea-run char are formidable
fish, reaching weights of 25 pounds and waging a powerful fight catapulting
from the water several times before they "lose steam" after
a lengthy fight in the stream.
