bass. The main reason: bass fishing in Ontario is exciting.
Once you experience the head-shaking leap of a Largemouth
you will be back for more. Another of our sportier freshwater
fish the Smallmouth is well known for its fighting stamina
and astounding leaping ability.
Largemouth bass are found in the southern reaches of Ontario.
They can be taken with almost any common live bait and artificial
baits like the Hula Popper which incite ferocious strikes
and thrilling displays of jumping fish. Canadian
Record: 10 lbs. 8 ounces.
Smallmouth
bass stake out different water than largemouths and their
habitat extends further into Northern Ontario. They can be
found in rocky and sandy areas of lakes and rivers in moderately
shallow water. The smallmouth will respond to plastic baits,
spinners and controlled depth diving jigs and plugs. Both
bait casting and spinning techniques are effective. Canadian
Record: 9 lbs. 13.5 ounces.
