Ice
Fishing represents an opportunity to enjoy the PEI winter and some great
fishing.
Hardy
Canadians has been chipping holes in winter ice for centuries. The reward:
fine, healthy fish to add to the family dinner table. Today, visitors
to PEI can take advantage of sunny winter and spring days to savour
this unique sport in comfort.
Winter
is hibernating period on PEI for some, for others a time for ice-fishing,
snowmobiling and enjoying the countryside in the tourism off season.
Anglers may not fish more than one set line and the daily catch limit
is five fish. All pertinent angling regulations apply to the winter
fishery. There are also additional regulations in place to protect the
environment and public safety: no shacks are allowed on the ice and
all shelter material and litter must be removed.
Winter ice fishing is restricted to Glenfinnan
and O'Keefes Lakes. The season runs from the first Saturday in January
to March 31st. A Trout Angling Licence & Wildlife Conservation Licence
are required by ice fishermen.
