Come bust a few Manitoba smallmouth bass because bass fishing in Manitoba is exciting and tremendous fun. Manitoba produces heavy weight smallies to stir the heart of the most experienced fisher person. Reports of 50 to 100 fish per day on good days are not uncommon, and typically include fish in the 18"+. Although the Smallmouth Bass are not a native species they have adapted very well in the cool clear Manitoba waters. Smallmouth bass stake out different water than largemouths and their habitat extends further into Manitoba with good populations in the southeastern waters of the Whiteshell and the waters of the northwest. Fly fishing, bait casting and spinning techniques are all effective. Canadian Record: 9 lbs. 13.5 ounces.
Largemouth bass are less common and are recommended catch and release only to preserve and develop the population. White bass are abundant in the Red river and southern portion of Lake Winnipeg. They average about 10 - 12 inches are considered to be a great eating fish.
